Artist Biography :

Ashley Bohne (she/her) is a fiber and metal artist working out of Milwaukee, WI. She graduated in 2023 with a BFA with a dual focus in Fiber and Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her love for fiber and interest in handcraft began at a young age when she learned how to sew from her grandma. Using traditional fiber craft techniques, such as weaving, quilting, embroidery, and crocheting, she looks to subvert the exploitation of these techniques through ideas of preservation. Using the presumed aesthetics of fragility and beauty through material choices, such as floral laces and finely woven linens, she highlights the shared experiences of womanhood and textile practices.

Her work has been displayed throughout Wisconsin, most recently in  From A to B at Evil Twins Gallery in Milwaukee, as well as the TMA Contemporary at the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, WI. Outside of the state, her work has traveled to San Diego for Missing Twin at the 2024 SNAG Conference, as well as North Carolina, where she attended two Residencies at Penland School of Craft. Most notably, in 2023, Ashley was awarded the Windgate-Lamar Fellowship, allowing her to travel worldwide to research the process of flax to linen. Currently, she works as the Exhibition Support/Production Assistant at the Racine Art Museum.
